One could think this is about Trump. It isn’t. Gonzo Journalist Hunter Thompson is referring to Richard Nixon. I remember Watergate. The corruption currently taking place in DC is several magnitudes greater in significance than Nixon’s shenanigans. Comparisons to Watergate fail to grasp the enormity of the present situation. Nixon’s cabinet consisted of True Believers. Trump’s cabinet and other cronies have shown themselves to be rank opportunists, grifters, con men who may be implicated in a network of international criminals and Russian oligarchs. Nonetheless, the parallels and the prescience of the quote are a little uncomfortable to consider.
